The first marching band to appear in the Rose Parade was the Monrovia Town Band in 1891, with fewer than 20 members. Today, it's not uncommon to find a 250-member band marching in the Rose Parade, and more than 50 musical groups compete for 16 openings every year.
On Friday, January 1, 2010 at 8 a.m. (PST), millions of spectators from around the world will celebrate the New Year with the 121st Rose Parade themed 2010: A Cut Above the Rest. The Rose Parade will once again feature the beautiful pageantry and tradition of magnificent floral floats, high-stepping equestrians and spirited marching bands.

Every year more than 3 million people line the streets and another 44 million tune into NBC to what the balloons, and floats join celebrities, bands and clown crews in the most spectacular holiday celebration in the world. The spirit of that small group of 1924 Macy’s employees lives on today with participation of more than 4 million volunteers on the famous 2.5 mile march through Manhattan’s streets.
